Attempting to keep this blog up to date with my travels. I can't be bothered (well, don't have the time) to go into detail about all my adventures so I shall copy and paste my monthly-email-to-the-folks-back home. It covers the past two months though!
The first update of the year! What a busy one it has been already, more so for you guys back home but here too. I have been trying to write this email since January 29th but I have been flat out ever since.
Christmas was quiet but good. I got to see all of the South side of the family on the webcam on Skype which just made my year. Was so good to "see" everyone and "meet" baby Jessica!! Had Christmas lunch here with my Au pair family then headed down to Jennys in the afternoon where it felt more like a real Christmas. A Christmas like the Jones' and the South's with wrapping paper all over the floor, games & endless food. Was alot of fun. I was spoilt rotten and couldnt eat for the next 2 weeks I was that full! I also spent New Years down at Jennys. We didn't really do anything for NYE as nothing was happening in the area. It was Bournemouths (where she lives) 200 year old birthday in 2010 so they did celebrations and fireworks on the New Years Day instead. They were interesting. Felt weird not spending NY with family though.
On 2nd January, Jenny's parents, Jenny & I went to my very first pantomime!! We saw Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. It was hilarious!!! One of the childrens TV presenters from baby Joshuas fave TV channel played 'Muddles' and was such a laugh. I cant wait to go again next Christmas!!
6th January brought the beggining of the snow! It was oh so exciting at first but by the second week I was OVER it. Sick to death of being stuck indoors with a baby. I did attempt to push the pram in it to Playgroup one morning but had to drag it backwards in the end. What a sight!! The snow was something like 12/13 inches deep at its worse. I had a blast at first building snowmen & making snow angels!
At the end of January I went to 'Hampton Court Palace', which is on the outskirts of London I think, home to King Henry VIII way back in his day. We walked around checking out the palace, very interesting! I had the most fun in the maze there though!! We got lost, but thats all in the fun of it.
On January 30th, Jenny & I head to London by coach (I never want to sit on another coach again, boring!!!). It was about a 2.5hr trip and we were headed up there to go to the theatre. We did some sight seeing through Covent Garden, checking out the Disney SHop and watched the entertainment around the area. We went to the 'Walkabout' bar which is the Aussie bar, for lunch. Afterwards we set off to find the Aussie food shop where I bought cherry ripes, mint patties & strawberry and cream lollies. Can you believe they dont have strawberrys and cream here???????? That alone cost $20!! Was a nice treat though.
We saw the show "The Rise and Fall of Little Voice" its based on an old movie I had never heard of but its main star was a finalist from the X Factor (like Idol) in 2008 & Jenny and I both love her voice so went. Absoutely blown away. I will never ever get sick of seeing theatre performances! It was the closing show so none of the cast wanted to leave the stage. Amazing.
We also visited the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain!
At the beggining of February, a new friend and I headed to Bath! We did the sight seeing tour bus so got a half hour guided tour of the area. Beats walking!! It was sooo cold that day, so the less we had to walk around outside, the better. My favourite place that we visited was the Roman Spas. They are so amazing. The water sits at a natural 46dgs. It really is amazing to see something that was created sooo long ago. I will link to photos.
Mid February I headed to Jennys again (I am getting to know the 3hr round trip quite well now!) as this weekend it was time to see..... Kelly Clarkson!!! Yes, that's right folks, we got to see the amazing Kelly Clarkson first because she loves us in the UK more than Australia so came here first ;) Won't say much as I know a few of you are seeing her soon but she has such a powerful voice and comes across as a very down to earth girl. There were 6 of us girls that went and we had a blast.
The weekend after I headed back to London (with new friend). We went to Leicster Square where you can pick up cheap tickets just hours before the shows. We got tickets to see 'Wicked' for £26/$50 bargain! Probably the best musical I have ever seen. I apparently need to watch the Wizard of Oz to understand the story a bit more but it was still great. Sad, funny and everything in between. We did a whirlwind tour of London seeing Big Ben, Buckingham Palace (though the Queen wasnt home so we didnt get to catch up for tea!), Horse Guard Parade, Trafalgar Square amoung other places. We went to the cheapest place we could find for lunch.... McDonalds! Can always count on Maccas for a cheap meal :D London is full of such arrogant, rude people who always seem to be in a rush to get places, it makes me tense... BUT it is worth it when you get to see the tourist attractions you've been seeing on TV all your life.
And thats the last 2 months of my life summed up! My sight seeing buddy, Kellie (new aupair from Melbourne) moved to Wales with the host family today so its going to be very quiet around here again! There is a new Canadian Au pair here too, Amy & a new girl named Kristen (also from Canada) is due to arrive in a couple of weeks. It's nice to have some like-minded friends my own age around.
So til next time, when I am a year older, take care and farewell!!
Elise xx
