A couple of months ago my boss thought it would be a brilliant idea to have a BBQ at our house. Now, at home I don't mind BBq's. They are a very casual affair, you know, jeans, t-shirts, steaks, sausages & bread rolls with tomato sauce and loads of chatting! Throw in some beers for the adults & juice for the kids and you have yourself a BBQ.
BBQ's in Buckinghamshire are a whole different kettle of fish. You have to dress up, there's lamb, sausages, lobster, billions of other seafood dishes, 20 desserts, 50 bottles of wine and talk about how successful a lawyer, magistrate, bussiness owner you are and what grammar school your child will be attending, and how he/she got 100% on all exams. And then theres the name dropping, who knows what celeb, who's cheating on who with who etc. Quite the experience. J has dubbed my area as the new Wisteria Lane - with the Desperate Housewives and all - and she couldn't be more spot on!!
All I can say is I REALLY REALLY REALLY owe J for coming up for the BBQ. We felt so awkward and out of place, it was good to have each other. I have nothing in common with any of these people. I didn't want to wear a dress, I wanted my jeans & band t-shirts! So about 7/8pmish, we escaped. We went for a 'drive' and 'ended up' at the hotel where I used to work and we had some yummy yummy dinner. It pays to go somewhere where you previously worked as my ex boss, the manager came to check that everything was ok with our meals (and to see how I was, nosy chap! He really is nice...).
After dinner we went for a little drive (I think) and headed home where everyone was heading to bed. We came upstairs, made up Jenny's bed and put One Tree Hill Season 1 DVD's on. I didn't say watch OTH, as I don't think we really ended up watching much of it at all, we were too busy talking. Monday morning I was rudely awoken by the tree cutting man ringing the buzzer on the gate and ringing the house at 8am. WTF mate. This put me in a bad mood for the next few hours. I refused to get out of bed til 9:30am then we headed off for our 'picnic'. Our "lunchtime picnic" consisted of raspberries, pain au choclats, crisps and chocolate with coke... at 10am. We headed down to Burnham Beeches as I remember it being so lovely when I was last down there at the beggining of April. We sat down by the pond because I wanted to watch the ducks (I'm such a child) and there were seats :P We started eating and J thought it would be smart to feed the ducks. We then spend the next 2 hours being stalked by ducklings and at one point had a group of about 10 mother ducks coming after us!! I chased a baby duck in the woods (well I was trying to chase it OUT and back to the water). it was no more than a month or so old?
Afterwards we went for a drive, on my almost empty tank, which I do alot. We went up through Seer Green, Beaconsfield and Jordans which is where all the TV presenters and actors live... also where the kids Dads house is :P It's so GREEN out there. So quiet, peaceful, green and WET yesterday as it started pouring down rain. Fun drive that was. We spent the daying lifting our feet whilst driving/in the car going past cemeteries because I would like to keep my soul, thank you very much, stalking tractor drivers and taking videos of him bopping up and down along the road and laughing our heads off at some of the very random photos J was taking whilst I drove.
We ended the weekend with a walk through Tescos (major cheap supermarket type chain thingy in the uk) which was fun considering the very posh weekend we experience and then it was time for J to go home :(
It's always sad when these fun weekends come to an end but god, they are so much fun. If I were a millionaire, I'd go on big adventures everyday!! I best get back to reality now - the aftermath of the "casual BBQ" is still waiting for me downstairs. Reality sucks, but meh I don't care. I'm having the time of my life & have been for SEVENTEEN weeks now!! Wow.
