I have come to the conclusion that my brain never ever stops. I think too much, I analyse too much. Whilst most people paid £50 to sit and watch the performers on stage perform 'Sister Act' last night, I paid my money and watched 'Sister Act' the performance, as well watching the musicians, the backstage guys running around with torches and moving props and thinking about what was going on behind the scenes. Things are never simple & straight forward in my mind, but that's ok. I like to know everything that is going on. Last nights performance would not have been anywhere as good as it was had it not been for all of the people behind the scenes. The crew don't always get credited for their roles, but there are people out there like me who take notice & think they do an amazing job!
So last nights show had a bit of a hiccup to begin with. The show was meant to start at 7:30pm, but around 7:45am the Stage manager came out to let us know that unfortunately due to circumstances beyond their control, there had been a technical glitch and the show would be delayed, commencing in another 15 minutes. I heard people boo, and sigh and moan to each other and just thought 'Get a grip'. These things happen, it is not like the cast & crew set out to ruin the audiences evening! It was just a delay, not a cancellation. So 15 minutes passed, and out comes the lady again. She informed us the problem had been fixed and the show will begin! Clapping and cheering from the audience and everyone returned to their seats. The whinging stopped, at last!
The show begun and I was blown away. This was my second theatre show, but was of course totally different to 'The Lion King' that I saw last year. There is something about theatre that gets me. I just love the presence of all the cast on stage. I thought Patina did an amazing job in the lead role. So full of life, fantastic voice, brilliant acting! The bar/club scenes were a hoot with so much going on! I particularly enjoyed the scenes between Deloris & Mother Superior. Patina Miller & Sheila Hancock work well together! They just feed off each others energy which is amazing to watch.
The band playing just below the stage were fantastic aswell. Couldn't fault them at all. The poor trumpet player had a cold though ;)
The stage props were great, especially for the Church scenes. Very dramatic! I definitely reccomened this show show to those who have the chance to go.
All in all, a very enjoyable night out. I can't wait to go the the theatre again. I only wish we had theatre industry as big as this back home in Sydney!
